Hello! My name is Laura Szech and I am the Chief Administrative Officer (principal) of this wonderful school.
I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago called Lake Bluff. I attended the University of Iowa for my undergraduate work in Elementary Education and French. I moved to Colorado on a whim after visiting here and loving it! I received my Graduate Degree from The University of Northern Colorado in Reading Education.
When I arrived in Fort Collins I worked as a substitute teacher for PSD then in the autism program at O’Dea Elementary. I decided to move to Denver to work at a first year charter school called Community Leadership Academy in Commerce City. I truly loved the opening of a new charter school but found myself missing Fort Collins. I applied for the 2nd grade position here in the school’s opening year and was lucky enough to get it! From there, I was promoted to Curriculum Specialist and then I became CAO in January of 2008. I truly love being able to support the students, teachers, and parents of this school community.
My hobbies include camping, golfing, skiing, yoga, scrapbooking, and reading. I love watching baseball and football, too! My favorite color is blue and my favorite food is Indian. My older brother lives here as well and is an interventions specialist for St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont. The rest of my family and friends remain in the Chicagoland area so I visit there often.
